The rent/rate negotiations with Southern Management Company (SMC) for Graduate Hills/Graduate Gardens have been successfully concluded. The staff in Resident Life and, particularly, Jan Davidson, did an excellent job! SMC's original proposal was for an average 10% increase. Through the negotiations, SMC came down to 5.5% and the University mobilized its resources to affect a final average increase of 4.5% - which will include funding for security enhancements, high speed internet access and other suggestions taken from resident surveys. Letters about the rent increase went out yesterday to residents.
The GSG extends a hearty congratulations to the Division of Student Affairs; the Department of Resident Life; Disha Pant, GSG VP Student Affairs-elect; Amber Simco, GSG VP Student Affairs; Rob Sherwood, GSG Assembly Rep.; the members of the GSG Legislative Assembly; the GSG Executive Staff; and the residents of Graduate Hills/Graduate Gardens who contributed to our successful efforts to curb these rent increases.
This is the exact target rate that we were hoping for, and the provisions for enhancements go well beyond anyone's expectations. Thank you so much for all the hard work and long hours that went into these negotiations.
