REPORT OF THE PRESIDENT
4 MARCH 2005

1) Disha Pant and I had a good meeting with Pat Mielkie. Disha’s been doing a wonderful work with grad housing issues. Pat offered to use the pull of the Division of Student Affairs to begin a dialogue with the Campus Police about security and safety concerns at Grad Hills/Grad Gardens. But I’ll refer such matters to our Student Affairs Committee.

2) The Graduate Council’s Committee on Student Affairs proposal on the “GA Duties and Time Commitments” section of the Graduate Handbook easily passed through the Council and is now policy. Once Dean Wylie has released the policy for general consumption, I’ll post it on the Forums.

3) I had a meeting with Dean Johnetta Davis and she has agreed to write a letter of support to the Committee for the Review of Student Fees in support of our proposed fee structure. This letter will be added to those I have already received from Ann Wylie, Dean of the Grad School and Dr. Mote’s Chief-of-Staff, and the Office of Graduate Legal Aid.

4) The Committee for the Review of Student Fees met for its first round of deliberations last month when we approved proposals form Resident Life, Dining Services, and Parking Fees. The Committee will meet in late April/early May to address our fee proposals.
