'Just wanted to make sure everyone read in today's FYI about the book store discount for graduate students. I'm sure there are other forums where thanks have already been given, but I wanted to acknowlege the work Rachel did to make this happen--
Thanks! (I know my checkbook will be much happier!)

What does 700 series and 900 series mean? Can we use this on laptops/computer supplies/etc?

I'm not sure, Bob. I don't *think* that computer stuff is eligible for the discount, but you should ask. It may be more clearly articulated in the language of the contract, which is included in the resolution, where ever that is on the website. I'll see if I can find it...

I just copied-and-pasted it from my soft MSWord copy:
members of the University faculty and staff receive a ten percent (10%) discount from the University Book Center "on textbooks purchased for personal use" and a discount of twenty percent (20%) "on all other merchandise excluding special orders, sale books, class and alumni rings, computer software, computer hardware, periodicals, discounted merchandise, stamps, health and beauty aids, food snacks, and beverages"
Language taken from 4.08.12 of the existing contract [last year's contract, prior to the new contract] between the University and Barnes and Noble, which describes the discount policies for "all full-time faculty and staff possessing a valid University faculty/staff identification card."
I've asked to see a copy of the new contract to ensure that we're written up in it, but I've not heard back. I doubt I'll see it, but at least the request is there. I--or the GSG designee, whomever s/he is--may be able to get the Union Advisory Board to request the info, too.
